English as a
Second Language

English as a Second LanguageLanguage Resources has been providing private 1-on-1 English as a Second Language (ESL) training since its inception in 1984. The owner and director, Kathleen Quinby, has worked in the field of ESL both overseas and in the U.S. since 1976

Language Resources' philosophy is that students must participate actively and thoughtfully in the entire language learning process - from the setting of goals to progress evaluation. This means that the students are closely involved in deciding the direction and pace of their classes. They choose which areas of English they want to work on - whether that is pronunciation, listening comprehension, grammar, idiomatic expressions, business English, or preparation for the TOEFL test.

Then, through one-on-one practice and outside assignments, they strengthen these language skills. Students also learn how to continue to improve their English on their own once they have completed their classes.

We Offer:

  • Private Classes
    (on-site or at our facility)
  • At-Home Tutors for Families
  • Pay-As-You-Go System
  • Flexible Scheduling
  • Pre-Assessment of Skills
  • New Arrival Consultations
  • Cultural Orientation
  • Writing Development
  • Listening Comprehension Training
  • TOEFL Preparation
  • Pronunciation Improvement
  • After-School Homework Help

As is the case with other services provided by Language Resources, instruction in English as a Second Language is tailored to the needs and schedule of the individual. With individual classes, a student has the option of making a flexible schedule that can change when needed. Students meet with their teacher as many times during the week as they like. On-site or at-home classes are possible if requested. Also, students from abroad can attend a flexible schedule of classes while on a tourist or visitor's visa, and use their free time for sightseeing and travel.
